AAFSC Response to Two ICE Killings in the Last Week

Two people were killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in separate traffic stops last week: Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, Texas on July 7, and Johan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine on July 13. These heart-breaking tragedies never should have happened.

The federal law enforcement’s actions–that we’ve seen in Minnesota, Texas, Maine, and elsewhere–are putting the safety and well-being of both immigrants and native-born U.S. citizens at serious risk.

No one should have to live in fear of law enforcement because of their immigration status. We must hold those responsible for these needless deaths accountable, demand justice, and insist on an immigration system that values life and upholds human rights.
