AAFSC Statement on the Events in Minnesota

January 27, 2026

AAFSC has been advocating for immigrants in New York City to receive the dignity, compassion, and justice that they deserve since 1994. Our Brooklyn-born organization was founded in the crossroads of the immigrant communities that shaped today’s New York. As we have been continuously highlighting, the federal law enforcement’s actions that have been occurring in Minnesota and elsewhere are disrupting those communities and putting the safety and well-being of ordinary people—immigrants and native-born U.S. citizens alike—at serious risk.

We are seeing people in Minnesota and across the country come out in the thousands in the freezing cold – bravely protecting their rights and demonstrating their resilience. AAFSC stands in solidarity with the people in Minneapolis, New York City, and across the country who are seeking to give voice to those who are the most vulnerable. The only way we can reverse the dangerous course that we are on is to demand accountability, justice, and an immigration system that values life and upholds human rights.
