AAFSC Statement on ICE Shooting in Minneapolis

January 8, 2026

Yesterday in Minneapolis, Renée Nicole Good was fatally shot by an ICE officer. This killing took place amid an aggressive surge of ICE activity in Minnesota. As we warned in our statement on harmful immigration rhetoric and policies, inflammatory narratives do not improve public safety. Nor do militarized ICE actions that put ordinary people’s safety and well-being at risk. They instead create conditions where violence, fear, and dehumanization thrive.

Renée Good’s killing is not an isolated incident. It follows a growing pattern of violence linked to ICE actions and anti-immigrant policies. From Lower Manhattan to Minnesota, these ICE raids are connected by the same dangerous tactics that destabilize communities and put individuals at unnecessary risk.

This is an urgent moment, and silence is a disservice when people are being physically harmed and communities are being put in danger. We call on elected officials to end violent, militarized immigration actions. Let’s all stand in solidarity with people in Minneapolis and across the country by joining rallies, vigils, and collective actions. We must demand accountability, justice, and an immigration system that values life and upholds human rights.
