In AAFSC’s newest video series, “AAFSC in Conversation with Sister Sheleeza”, we sit down with Sister Sheleeza Deen, resident and founder of Safe Zone Youth, to explore the importance of community-led efforts to holistically address COVID-19’s impact in immigrant neighborhoods and communities of color. In Briarwood, Queens, and across New York City, AAFSC has been supporting community partners with COVID-19 PPE distribution and vaccine coordination, mental health programming, civic engagement and community organizing, food distribution, and ongoing gardening revitalization.
