On Friday, AAFSC organized a food distribution drive and vaccine van, in coordination with The Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA) and NYC Health + Hospitals. Together, we distributed over 200 bags of culturally appropriate food items and vaccinated 11 people against COVID-19. In the spirit of Elijah “Eli” Alperin, we came together to respond to the growing need for food security and access to trustworthy health information in NYC’s vulnerable communities. “This is the perfect way to honor his memory and to imagine that he would be doing this with us. We started forming a line of people that live around here and then around 1 p.m. we started handing them out with some fruit and bread and a lot of food that the families are familiar with… then we were out so quick because there’s a huge need and we’re glad to meet that need,” said Matthew Francis, Senior Community Outreach & Enrollment coordinator.
Thank you to all who supported with this event and celebrated Eli’s commitment to make the world a better place. You can view the News12 coverage of this event, here.
