The Arab-American Family Support Center launched a Mental Health Initiative in partnership with Maimonides Hospital and New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and community stakeholders. This launch is a pivotal moment for marginalized and under-resourced immigrant and refugee communities, who suffer disproportionately higher rates of mental illness with significantly reduced opportunity for accessing care.
The launch event took place with over 60 community members, community based organizations, government officials, and health care providers. The initiative will directly impact thousands of low-income community members and will utilize non-traditional methods and stakeholders to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and advocate for increased awareness, access, and utilization of mental health care.
