By Jake Keyel, Youth Program Manager
The youth program is in full swing at AAFSC. Both our elementary and middle school students
are back in the routine of daily homework sessions and weekend activities and field trips. On Saturday, October 13th we took 25 students to Melody Lanes to enjoy an afternoon of bowling and junk food. Students worked on their game as well as their appetites. We were accompanied on this trip by a wonderful group of volunteers from New York Cares. On the 20th we had Art Explorers where the students paint Halloween themed pictures and painted jack-o-lantern faces on balloons.
We are very lucky to be starting the Study Now, Play Later program again this year with New York Cares. Starting November 4th, we will have volunteers to tutor and play with our students every Monday. The SAT program is also off to a strong start. At our first session on October 17th we had 100 percent attendance. Students met their tutors and each other and got down to the business of studying for their exam.
We are still recruiting Middle School students. Any students in grades 6th through 8th are welcome to join us for our after school program.
